On the night of 10th April, 1915, 2nd East Surrey battalion of 85 Brigade, 28th Division, relieved French troops in trenches, ¾ mile north-east of Zonnebeke in the Ypres salient. This tour lasted for four days during which time the battalion suffered a number of casualties. mostly from shell fire, including Edward Pym who was killed on 12th April.
